This place is new, and I'm always on the lookout for new places. Coupa Cafe is a local Bay Area chain. There is one on the Stanford campus. This one is in a nondescript section of El Camino Real in Los Altos. El Camino Real sounds grand, but it's really mostly a four lane road lined with shopping plazas. Los Altos is known as one of the more wealthy areas of Silicon Valley, but you'd be disappointed by the view from El Camino Real. But great stuff comes out of bland settings, so I entered the place with optimism.

Coupa Cafe has a colorful logo, with an almost tropical theme. It's a bit different than the normally low-key colors used by coffee houses. This Coupa Cafe is complimented with large windows and a high ceiling giving it a fresh airy feel and goes nicely with a colorful logo. So far, looking good!

When we visited it was quite busy. We fit ourselves into a couple of chairs on a large communal table. I asked the man sitting across from me to move his papers out of my way so I could sit down and enjoy my coffee. He very grudgingly pulled his papers towards himself so I had room for my mug and plate of carrot cake. I got the general feeling he hated having me so near. I find it curious that people will go to coffee shops and sit at communal tables, but react with frustration to actually having to sit near a stranger.

The service was, indifferent. The carrot cake was too dry, the banana bread was good. The coffee was unremarkable.

I don't know what more to say about this place. Give it a visit if it's convenient. Don't expect exceptional coffee or food, but the space itself is pleasant and appears to be professionally run. But I would never go out of my way to go here.
